Oregon Notarization Requirements
To get a document notarized in Oregon you need three things: to appear in person, an acceptable ID, and a complete document. This page explains each one under Oregon law (ORS chapter 194), so nothing holds up your appointment. Pac Signing Notary notarizes in our offices before 5pm and by mobile notary 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What ID Oregon notaries accept
| Type of ID | Accepted? |
|---|---|
| U.S. or recognized foreign passport | Yes |
| Oregon or other U.S. state driver license or ID card | Yes |
| Military ID or federally recognized tribal ID with photo and signature | Yes |
| Any of the above expired less than three years ago | Yes |
| No acceptable ID | Only with a credible witness who appears, has valid ID or is known to the notary, and swears to who you are |
Source: ORS 194.240. The name on your ID should match the name on the document. Your ID may show more of your name than the document, but not less.
Before you come: a checklist
- Do not sign in advance if the document asks you to sign in front of a notary (a jurat). For an acknowledgment, you confirm to the notary that the signature is yours.
- Fill in every blank. A notary cannot notarize a document with blank spaces that should be completed. Write “N/A” where something does not apply.
- Bring every signer. Each person whose signature is notarized must appear in person with their own ID.
- Check whether witnesses are needed. Oregon wills need two witnesses; we can provide them. See notary and witness services.
- Bring the whole document, not only the signature page.

What a notary can and cannot do
- Can: verify your identity, witness your signature or confirm your acknowledgment, give an oath for a sworn statement, and certify certain copies.
- Cannot: give legal advice, draft or explain your document, notarize a document in which the notary has a personal interest, or notarize for someone who does not appear to understand or is not signing willingly.
- For use abroad: an Oregon apostille is issued only on a signature notarized by an Oregon notary. See apostille requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use an expired ID to get something notarized in Oregon?

Up to $10 per notarial act, and up to $25 for remote online notarization. Travel can be charged separately.

A credible witness who has valid ID, or whom the notary knows, can swear to your identity in person.
Does Pac Signing offer online notarization?
